Residential Support Worker

Position Overview

As a Residential Support Worker with BHHS, you will support adults in a structured, therapeutic living environment. Your role includes supervision, skill-building, culturally informed practices, and contributing to personalized support plans. You help create a safe, stable setting where individuals can work toward their personal goals while maintaining the wellbeing of clients, staff, and the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, Case & House Operations
  • Support day-to-day program routines and maintain a safe, organized home environment.
  • Assist with case management duties and contribute to client service plans.
  • Encourage clients to build life skills, social skills, and healthy routines.
  • Document observations, changes, and progress.

Client Support

  • Help individuals identify and work toward personal goals.
  • Promote involvement in community, cultural, recreational, and vocational activities.
  • Transport clients to appointments, programs, and events.
  • Communicate relevant updates to team members, supervisors, and external partners.

Employment Requirements

Qualifications

  1. Diploma or degree in social services, psychology, or a related field
  2. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  3. Current First Aid & CPR certification

Core Competencies

  • Completion of required BHHS and ministry-led training
  • Understanding of emergency and safety procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Capacity to build positive, respectful relationships with clients
  • Crisis intervention and problem-solving abilities
  • Teaching, motivational, and life-skills coaching experience is an asset
  • Basic cooking and computer proficiency
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, clean abstract, and reliable transportation
  • Comfortable working 12-hour shifts
  • Completion of all intake paperwork upon hire

Mandatory Training (Post-Hire)

All new team members complete BHHS’s core training, which includes:

  • Organization philosophy & client-centred practice
  • Medication administration
  • Suicide intervention
  • Trauma-informed care & harm-reduction basics
  • Abuse prevention and response
  • Behaviour support strategies
  • Safe handling and crisis-management skills
  • First Aid & CPR
  • Food safety and hygiene
  • WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety
